FAQS
Eyelash Extension Glue: Common Issues & Solutions
-
I AM Lash Pro adhesives are fast-drying (around 0.5~2 seconds, depending on the formula). Keep in mind that high humidity or warmer temperatures will make the glue cure even faster, while low humidity or a cold room slows it down. Always work in a controlled environment (about 18-24°C and 45-65% humidity) to ensure the adhesive cures at the ideal speed for best retention.
-
For classic lash extensions, a moderate-drying adhesive like I AM Lash Pro Classic Glue (1-2 second dry time) is ideal because it offers more control for precise placement.
For volume lashes, we recommend a faster adhesive such as our Touch Glue (~1 second dry time) to keep your handmade fans from closing.
Mega volume sets perform best with an ultra-fast glue like I AM Lash Pro Addict Glue (0.5~1 second dry) that bonds large fans quickly and securely.
Always choose a glue that matches your lashing speed and technique so you get the best results for each style.
-
If your lash glue is not adhering properly, it could be due to excess oil, humidity issues, or improper prep. Make sure to cleanse the lashes with an oil-free cleanser, use a lash primer and check if your humidity and temperature levels are suitable for the adhesive you’re using.
-
Poor retention (extensions not lasting long) is often caused by using old or improperly stored adhesive, wrong environment conditions, or application mistakes.
To improve retention, ensure that you are using the right adhesive for your working speed, maintaining an ideal humidity (45-65%) and temperature (20-24°C), and applying the correct amount of lash glue (not too much or too little).
Always prep the natural lashes by cleaning and priming them - oil or dirt will weaken the bond - and use the right amount of adhesive on each extension (too little won’t hold and too much can cause clumping). Also remember to refresh your glue drop every 15-20 minutes and ensure you isolate each natural lash when applying; these steps will greatly improve lash retention.
-
Lash glue drying time is affected by humidity and temperature. If your glue is drying too fast, your environment may be too humid or warm. If it’s drying too slowly, it may be too dry or cold. Adjusting the room conditions or switching to a faster or slower drying glue can help.
-
Lash glue contains cyanoacrylate, which can cause irritation in sensitive clients. To minimise fumes and irritation, work in a well-ventilated area and use a fan to disperse adhesive fumes away from your client. Make sure your client’s eyes remain completely closed during the lash application. Apply eye pads or tape securely. You can check using eyelash mirror everything is in place correctly and nothing is lifting the eyelid. Use just the right amount of adhesive - excess glue can produce more fumes - and consider opting for a low-fume I AM Lash Pro glue or clear adhesive if your client has sensitivity to the pigment. After finishing the lash set, you can speed-cure the glue by using a nano mister which helps evaporate residual fumes. Always perform a patch test before application.
-
Dip about 1-2mm of the lash extension’s base into the adhesive - just enough to pick up a small, even bead of glue at the tip.
Make sure the extension’s base is coated with a thin layer of I AM Lash Pro glue but not dripping (you want a micro droplet of adhesive, not a large drop).
As you pull the extension out of the glue, drag it slightly to break any excess string, then immediately place it onto the natural lash. This technique ensures the glue wraps around the natural lash for a secure, long-lasting bond without excess adhesive.
-
Always shake your I AM Lash Pro glue vigorously for at 60 seconds every morning before you start your lashing day to mix the ingredients thoroughly.
Shake your lash glue for ~15 seconds before each drop. Use a glue pin that comes with all I AM Lash Pro adhesives while shaking to avoid lash glue seeping into the cap. Wipe any excess glue of the nozzle with lint-free wipe to prevent the cap from clogging.
After shaking, dispense a fresh drop of glue and “burp” the bottle (squeeze the bottle slightly to expel any air) before closing it - this keeps the nozzle clear and prevents air pockets.
Properly prepping and shaking your adhesive ensures consistent texture and maximum retention for lash extensions.
-
Lash glue has a shelf life of about 4-6 weeks after opening.
Lash glue can turn thick or stringy as it ages or if it’s exposed to moisture for too long, so the key is proper storage and timely replacement. Always close the cap tightly immediately after dispensing a drop and wiping the nozzle with lint-free wipe. Keep the nozzle clean and “burp” the bottle to remove excess air before sealing it - this prevents glue from drying out in the tip.
To prolong shelf life, store your adhesive in an airtight container with a silica gel packet and keep it away from direct sunlight and heat.
If you notice your I AM Lash PRO adhesive getting gloopy or stringy, it’s likely near the end of its life, so it’s best to open a fresh bottle for optimal performance.
-
Poor retention could be due to incorrect glue usage, insufficient bonding time, or client aftercare mistakes. Ensure proper isolation, attachment, and glue curing. Also, educate clients on aftercare, such as avoiding oil-based products, steam, and excessive touching of the lashes.
-
Unopened I AM Lash Pro adhesives have a shelf life of up to 6 months when stored properly.
Store your lash adhesive upright in a cool, dark, and dry place away from direct sunlight or extreme temperatures. It’s best to keep the cap tightly closed and place the glue in an airtight container with a silica gel pack to protect it from moisture.
Never refrigerate your lash glue (condensation can spoil it), and always wipe the nozzle clean before closing to maintain a tight seal and prevent the glue from thickening.
Always mark the date you opened your lash glue and watch for any

Glue buildup occurs when adhesive is exposed to air and moisture. To prevent clogging, wipe the nozzle with a lint-free wipe each use, store the bottle upright, and avoid squeezing excess air back into the bottle.
-
In high humidity, you need a slower-drying adhesive such as I AM Lash PRO Classic Adhesive, which work best in humidity levels of 35-65%. A faster-drying glue may cure too quickly in high humidity, resulting in weak bonds.
-
If your glue is drying too slowly, try increasing humidity, using a nano mister to speed up curing, or switching to a faster-drying adhesive. You can also use Glue Aid - it speeds up the setting time of eyelash glue for faster application without affecting eye lash extensions retention.
Using a micro brush, apply a small amount of Glue Aid to the bases of eyelash extensions along the strip to decrease drying time.
Eyelash Extensions
-
Eyelash extensions are usually made from a synthetic fibre called PBT and come in different styles often referred to as faux mink, silk, or flat lashes.
Faux mink lashes are the most popular - they’re very soft, lightweight, and have a matte or semi-matte black finish that mimics natural lashes. “Silk” lashes (also synthetic) tend to be slightly glossier and a bit firmer, giving a darker shine for a bolder look. It all differs from brand to brand.
I AM Lash Pro uses premium PBT fibres in our lash extensions, offering a blend of softness, durability, and rich black colour for a luxurious lash set.
-
Individual eyelash extensions are arranged on sticky strip tabs in a tray, and the way they’re attached can affect how easy they are to work with.
High-quality lash trays (like those from I AM Lash Pro) use a gentle, residue-free adhesive 2mm strip with perfect stickiness for optimal fanning speed.
Foil backing strips for mess free removal of the lash palette.
The strip attachment matters because it impacts your speed and ease during application - well-attached lashes come off smoothly and fan out easily, allowing you to work faster and avoid frustration or waste.
-
The best lash extensions to use depend on the technique: classic, volume, or mega volume.
For classic lash application (one extension to one natural lash), you’ll typically use a medium thickness lash (around 0.12 - 0.15 mm diameter) since you’re applying a single extension per lash - I AM Lash Pro offers classic lash trays in these diameters to create a full, defined classic set. Remember! Always ok to use finer lashes, just take client’s preferences into consideration. 0.10 thickness is a very popular choice these days.
Volume lashing requires much thinner extensions (approximately 0.06 - 0.07 mm) because you apply multiple lashes as a fan on one natural lash; using lightweight volume lashes (like I AM Lash Pro’s 0.06 Smooth Volume Lashes) lets you build a fluffy fan without adding too much weight to the natural lash.
Mega volume uses even finer lashes (as thin as 0.05 mm) to create very dense fans (often 10+ ultra-fine extensions per natural lash) for an extremely dramatic look. It’s important to choose ultra-light lashes made for mega volume so you can create big fans that still adhere well and won’t strain the natural lashes - I AM Lash Pro’s ultra-thin volume lashes are designed specifically for these advanced techniques.
-
Lash curl types (such as C, D, L, L+ and M curls) indicate how curved the extension is, which affects the final look of the lash set.
A CC curl is a versatile, medium curl that gives a nice uplift to the natural lash - it’s very popular for an open-eye effect that still looks fairly natural. A D curl has a deeper, more dramatic curve, creating a glamorous, doll-eye look with a very lifted appearance (great for clients who want a bold, mascara-like effect).
L curls - have a flat base that transitions into an abrupt lift; these are ideal for clients with very straight or upwards growing natural lashes. L curl perfect for eyeliner effects.
The I AM Lash Pro M curl offers a strong and edgy lift. Becoming one of the most popular curls on the market.
By selecting the right curl type for a client (and you can even mix curls in one set), you can tailor the lashes to complement their eye shape and desired style - I AM Lash Pro carries everything from subtle B and C curls to dramatic D and M curls to accommodate every lash look.
-
Lash extensions come in various thicknesses (diameters) and lengths, and choosing the right ones is key to achieving the desired look while keeping the natural lashes healthy.
Thicker extensions (around 0.15 mm diameter or above) create a darker, more pronounced lash line and are typically used one-to-one in classic sets or on clients with strong natural lashes.
In contrast, thinner extensions (about 0.05 - 0.07 mm) are used for volume and mega volume techniques, allowing you to apply multiple lightweight lashes to a single natural lash for fluffy fullness without excessive weight.
Lashes also range in length from about 6mm (very short) up to 14mm or more - shorter lengths are ideal for inner corners or a subtle enhancement, whereas longer lengths (12mm, 14mm, etc.) add drama and length for a more glamorous look. I AM Lash Pro offers a wide range of diameters and lengths in their lash trays, so you can mix and match sizes to design the perfect set for each client’s eye shape and preference.
-
Generally, most eyelash extensions are made from the same durable synthetic material (PBT), but differences in lash porosity can slightly affect retention and wear.
I AM Lash Pro lashes are porus which makes them bond a bit better with the adhesive because they’re not as slick as very glossy lashes - the glue grips the less shiny surface more effectively.
In terms of durability, high-quality lashes will hold their curl and colour over the weeks of wear. I AM Lash Pro’s faux mink lashes, for instance, are designed to maintain their deep black color and curl, ensuring that sets look great and retain well as long as they’re applied correctly and cared for properly by the client.
-
I AM Lash Pro eyelash extensions are designed with special features to make lash application easier and the results better. Many of our volume lash trays (such as the Smooth Collection) they effortlessly spread into a perfect fan, which speeds up volume and mega volume lashing.
The extensions also have a rich matte black finish (rather than a shiny plastic look), giving a more natural appearance and helping adhesive bond effectively to the fibre.
Additionally, I AM Lash Pro lashes are ultra-lightweight and soft, so you can create very full sets that are comfortable for clients to wear and put less strain on their natural lashes. These features (easy fanning, matte finish, and light weight) mean lash artists can work faster and deliver gorgeous, long-lasting lash sets with a deep black, fluffy look.
-
Store your lash extension trays in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or excessive humidity to help the lashes maintain their curl and integrity.
Always keep the tray closed with its lid when not in use - this protects the lashes from dust, and it prevents any accidental brushing or bending of the lash fibres.
It’s a good idea to organise your lash trays upright or flat in a drawer or container where they won’t get jostled or crushed; many lash artists use a dedicated lash storage box to keep different curls and lengths sorted and safe.

Eyelash Extension Tweezers
-
Common types of eyelash extension tweezers include straight (isolation) tweezers, curved tweezers, L-shaped or “boot” volume tweezers, and fine-tip precision tweezers.
Straight tweezers are perfect for isolating individual natural lashes (great for classic lashing), while curved and boot tweezers are ideal for picking up multiple extensions to create volume fans.
Fine-tip tweezers help you grab very thin or short lashes with accuracy.
Each tweezer type serves a specific purpose, so lash artists choose the shape that best fits their technique for maximum precision and comfort.
-
For classic eyelash extensions, slightly curved tweezers work best because they allow precise pick up and placement (for example, I AM Lash Pro PRO Curved Tweezer or Curved Tip Tweezer are ideal for classic sets).
Volume lashing usually calls for specialised volume tweezers like boot (L-shape) or curved tweezers, which can grab and fan multiple lightweight extensions at once - I AM Lash Pro’s Mini Boot Volume Tweezers are a great choice for creating fluffy volume fans.
Mega volume techniques use even thinner extensions in larger fans, so you need a tweezer with a strong grip and a wide “sweet spot” for pickup; the I AM Lash Pro Fine Axe Volume Tweezers offer the precision and hold needed to handle ultra-fine mega volume fans without slipping.
Using the appropriate tweezer for each lash style makes application easier and ensures the best results.
-
Grip strength and precision are crucial in lash tweezers to ensure you can pick up and hold extensions without them slipping or twisting.
High precision means the tweezer tips close evenly with no gaps, so even the finest lash extension can be grabbed securely without crisscrossing or sliding out.
Consistent tension (not too stiff and not too loose) is also important - it gives you control without straining your hand.
I AM Lash Pro tweezers are hand-tested to guarantee perfect tip alignment and an ideal, soft-close grip, so you get a reliable hold on each lash for faster, accurate application.
-
Clean your tweezers after each use by removing any adhesive residue and disinfecting them with alcohol or a professional cleaner.
Always handle tweezers gently: avoid dropping them or pressing the tips on hard surfaces, as this can bend or misalign the delicate points.
Regularly check the tweezer tips for glue build-up and gently remove it (you can use a product like the I AM Lash Pro Glue Solvent to dissolve stuck adhesive).
By cleaning, sanitising, and storing your tweezers properly, you’ll keep the tips precise and extend the tool’s lifespan.
-
To test your tweezers, gently close the tips on a single lash or strip and see if you can grasp the extension firmly without it slipping- this ensures the tips meet perfectly.
Many lash artists find the tweezer’s “sweet spot” by practicing picking up a fan or lash from different angles along the tip to discover where the grip is strongest. If the grip feels weak or the tips seem misaligned, you can carefully adjust the tension by slightly squeezing or bending the tweezers near the base, but do this with caution (too much pressure can damage them).
Ideally, use high-quality tweezers (like I AM Lash Pro tweezers) that come already calibrated and hand-tested for optimal alignment, so minimal adjustment is needed.
-
I AM Lash Pro offers tweezers tailored to each lashing style.
For isolation - the Straight Isolation Tweezers provide precise separation of natural lashes with a comfortable grip. If you prefer a bit of an angle 30 degree angle tweezer is a great choice.
For classic lashing - the PRO Curved Tweezers provide precise and comfortable grip. It’s a go to for classic lash extensions placement.
For volume and mega volume techniques, the Mini Boot Volume Tweezers and 90 degree Volume Tweezers are top picks - they make it easy to pick up multiple lashes and create perfect fans thanks to their strong grip and wide sweet spot.
If you need ultra-fine precision (for example, grabbing very tiny lashes or inner-corner lashes), the Fine Axe Tweezer from I AM Lash Pro gives you a super precise tip with grip right at the point. Amazing tweezer for Volume and Classic lash application, the whole tip is a sweet spot.
Each of these I AM Lash Pro tweezers is designed for a specific application, so you can always choose the best tool to achieve flawless classic, volume, or mega volume sets.
-
Always store your eyelash extension tweezers with their tips protected to prevent damage. Use a dedicated case or holder for tweezers (for example, a protective tweezer case from I AM Lash Pro) or at least a rubber tip cap, so the fine points don’t get bent or dulled when not in use.
Proper storage and gentle handling will ensure your lash tweezers stay perfectly aligned and last longer.
-
If your tweezers are slipping off the lash (not gripping well), first check the tips for any adhesive build-up -even a tiny bit of glue residue can cause slippage, so clean the tips thoroughly.
For misalignment (when the tweezer tips don’t meet evenly), you can try to realign them by gently adjusting the angle of the tips or lightly squeezing the arms together, but do this very carefully to avoid snapping the metal (in some cases, professional re-calibration is best).
A weak grip or “dead spot” in the tweezer usually means the tension is off or the sweet spot is small; you might improve it by slightly bending the tweezer or changing where you grip the lash, but often the easiest fix is to switch to a better-quality tweezer.
High-quality tweezers (like I AM Lash Pro’s hand-tested tweezers) are less prone to these issues because they’re crafted for perfect alignment and consistent tension from the start.
