Why One Lash Style Doesn’t Fit All: The Art of Customising Eyelash Extensions

How many times have you heard it?

“Can I have the same lash extensions as my friend?”

Possibly once or twice at least, am I right?

The truth is, we can all get the same set of lash extensions, but they will never look exactly the same on everyone. Why? Because every client has unique eye shapes, lash health, and facial features that influence how lash extensions sit and complement their look.

What Affects How Lash Extensions Look?

Customising lash extensions is essential to enhance natural beauty while ensuring comfort and longevity. Here are the key factors that determine how lash extensions appear on different clients:

1. Eye Shape

Whether your client has almond, round, hooded, or monolid eyes, the right lash map will enhance their natural features. For example:

  • Cat eye lash extensions can elongate almond eyes but might make downturned eyes look droopy.
  • Doll eye styling opens up deep-set eyes but might look overwhelming on large, round eyes.

2. Eye Size

A lash set that looks natural and balanced on small eyes might not create the same effect on larger eyes. Lash length and curl need to be adjusted to maintain proportion and harmony.

3. Eye Depth (Protruding vs. Deep-Set Eyes)

  • Protruding eyes need softer curls such as B, C, CC in shorter lengths to balance their shape. Using too long lash lengths and strong curls would make the eye pop even more.
  • Deep-set eyes may require softer curls like C, L+ in longer lengths that brings the eye out of the socket. Avoid creating a harsh, overly dramatic look that would sink the eye more in.

4. Eyelid Type

  • Hooded eyelids require strategic lash placement to lift and cover up hooded, droopy areas.
  • Mono-lids may need a mix of curls to create a natural-looking lift.

5. Brow Height and Placement

Brow placement impacts how lash extensions frame the eyes. Clients with higher-set brows may need a more lifted lash map, while those with low or straight brows benefit from a softer, natural extension style.

6. Natural Lash Health and Structure

  • Some clients have naturally strong and thick lashes that can support longer and fuller volume extensions.
  • Others with weaker natural lashes may require lighter and shorter extensions to avoid premature lash shedding and damage.
  • Growth patterns also vary - some lashes grow straight, while others may be naturally curled or grow downward.

Why Customisation is the Key to Flawless Lash Extensions

It’s just like shopping for the perfect pair of jeans - what fits and flatters one person might not look the same on another. That’s why lash extensions should be tailored to enhance individual eye shape, facial proportions, and natural lash characteristics.

A skilled lash artist considers all these factors to create a set that enhances the client’s beauty without overpowering their natural features.

Tips for Lash Artists to Customise Extensions Like a Pro

  • Always analyse eye shape, size, and lash health before choosing a lash map.
  • Use a mix of lengths, curls, and diameters for a natural transition.
  • Adjust lash direction to follow the natural lash growth pattern.
  • Recommend lash styles that enhance rather than mask the client’s features.

Tailored Beauty is True Beauty!

No two lash sets will ever look identical, and that’s what makes custom eyelash extensions so special. When done right, they enhance a client’s unique beauty, ensuring they leave your salon feeling confident and glamorous.

Happy lashing, darlings!
